Hope not Hype!

Many new network marketers believe that the way to 'sell' their business opportunity is to tell their prospect how much they can earn (lots!); how little they will have to work (a few hours a week); how quick it will happen (this time next year you'll be a millionaire!) ; how easy it will be (anyone can do it) ; how everyone in their team will sell and recruit like wildfire; etc.

Of course, MLM isn't like that - especially at the start...

How not to use social media - part one
I am a member of LinkedIn - one of the main networking sites for business owners.
I am also a member of several MLM/network marketing groups on the site, in order to keep up to date with MLM news.

I regularly get emails from other members of the groups - they generally sound like this:..

I've told you a million times not to exaggerate!

One of the biggest issues in MLM is the fabrication and exaggeration of facts.  Like many journalists, MLMer's often refuse to let the facts get in the way of a good story.

I was reminded of this in a forum post today - a distributor making claims that were not backed up by the truth....

The Three Foot Rule 

The three foot rule tells you to talk to everyone within three feet about your business and products. Standing in a shopping queue? Talk to the people in front of you and behind you - and the checkout person when you get there.
Sitting on a bus or train? Start a conversation with the person sitting next to you, in front of you, behind you - tell them how good your products are.
At work? Start a conversation about how you make extra money from your business.
Taken your car into the garage to be mended? Chat to the mechanic while he is working on your car about how he could make a fortune if he ran an MLM business on the side.
Sounds like a good idea? Well, many experts in the field will say yes to that. But  I disagree....
